Carter Wins 2007 Roanoke-Chowan Poetry Award

0807131768 LSU Press poet Catherine Carter has been awarded the 2007 Roanoke-Chowan award for her poetry collection, The Memory of Gills. The award is presented annually by the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association and has a long and distinguished history. The award will be presented at a ceremony in Asheville, NC, on November 10.

LSU Press Book Selected as Finalist for 2007 National Book Award

9780807132142THE HOUSE ON BOULEVARD ST., by LSU Press author David Kirby, has been selected as a finalist for the 2007 National Book Award in Poetry, sponsored by the National Book Foundation. A Baton Rouge native, Kirby is a graduate of University High School and LSU. The announcement was made today by author and social critic Camille Paglia.  The winner in each of the four categories—Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People’s Literature—will be announced at the National Book Awards Benefit Dinner and Ceremony in Manhattan on November 14, hosted by writer Fran Lebowitz.  Each winner receives $10,000 plus a bronze statue; each finalist receives a bronze medal and a $1,000 cash award.

Skloot Poetry Collection Named Finalist for Oregon Book Award

Skloot_cover Floyd Skloot's collection, The End of Dreams, has been named a finalist for the 2007 Oregon Book Award in Poetry. The winner will be announced at the 21st Annual Oregon Book Awards ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, December 2, at the Portland Art Museum.The Oregon Book Awards are presented annually for the finest accomplishments by Oregon writers.

Kimberly Harrison is the Museum of the Confederacy's Founder's Award Winner

Harrison_cover A Maryland Bride in the Deep South by Kimberly Harrison has won the Founder's Award of the Museum of the Confederacy. Harrison's work was chosen because it is "skillfully edited with detailed maps, a “who’s who” of characters and places, and an introduction that provides a window onto the private lives of mid-19th-century Southern women. [It is] an important contribution to both women’s studies and the history of the Confederate homefront."

Boman wins Eagleton-Waters Award

Boman_cover Dennis Boman's Lincoln's Resolute Unionist: Hamilton Gamble, Dred Scott Dissenter and Missouri's Civil War Governer has won the Missouri State Historical Society's Eagleton-Waters Award. The award is given annually to the best book on Missouri political history.
