Fulton selected as a finalist for Patterson Fiction Prize

John Fulton, author of The Animal Girl, was named as a finalist for the 2008 Patterson Fiction Prize.  The annual award is sponsored by the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College for the best book of fiction during the previous calendar year.

Mary Ann Sternberg wins Greater Baton Rouge Sisterhood award

Ernest Gaines and LSU author Mary Ann Sternberg were recently named as this year's winners of the Greater Baton Rouge Brotherhood and Sisterhood Award.  The award is sponsored by 100 Black Men of Baton Rouge and is awarded to 2 members of the community who promote justice and harmony.  The ceremony will be held at the Baton Rouge Holiday Inn Select on August 7th. 

Ms. Sternberg is the author of Along The River Road and Winding Through Time.

LSU Press author Larry Powell elected as SAH Fellow

Congratulations to LSU Press author Lawrence N. Powell, who was recently elected as a Fellow of the Society of American Historians.  Fellows are chosen in recognition of the literary and scholarly distinction of their historical writing.   LSU Press recently published The New Orleans of George Washington Cable: The 1887 Census Office Report, edited with an introduction by Mr. Powell.   

Reynolds wins Broocks Bates Award

 LSU Press author Donald Reynolds has won the 2007 Kate Broocks Bates Award for Texas Terror.  This is a very prestigious award from the Texas State Historical Association.  Congratulations, Donald!

'The Animal Girl' is a Story Prize notable book

The Animal Girl, by John Fulton, was recently named a notable book of 2007 by The Story Prize.  The Story Prize is an annual award which honors authors for outstanding collections of short stories.   Congratulations, John!

LSU Press author a 2008 Lincoln Prize finalist

LSU Press author Robert Cook’s book, Troubled Commemoration, was selected as one of four finalists for the 2008 Lincoln Prize. The prize, administered by Gettysburg College, is awarded annually for the best non-fiction historical work of the year on Abraham Lincoln, the American Civil War, or a subject relating to their era.

Quinlan honored as 'Star of the South'

LSU Press author, Kieran Quinlan, is one of 12 Irish-Americans named as one of the "Stars of the South" by Irish America Magazine.  The award, which recognizes the best and brightest Irish-Americans in the Southern United States, was presented October 27th at the Commerce Club in Atlanta, GA.

Quinlan, who was born in Dublin, teaches in the UAB Department of English, specializing in modern American and Irish literarture with a special emphasis on writers from the American South.  He has published three books, including Strange Kin: Ireland and the American South, John Crowe Ransom's Secular Faith, and Walker Percy, The Last Catholic Novelist.

Klotter wins Kentucky Historical Society's Governor's Award

LSU Press author, Dr. James C. Klotter, is this year's winner of the Kentucky Historical Society's Governor's Award.  This award is given to the author of the best book to appear on Kentucky history over the past four years.  The award-winning book is Kentucky Justice, Southern Honor, and American Manhood: Understanding the Life and Death of Richard Reid.  Governor's Award winners receive a plaque and a prize of $1,000, funded by the Kentucky Historical Society Foundation.  Dr. Klotter was presented this award at the society's annual meeting on November 9th in Frankfort, KY.

Carter Wins 2007 Roanoke-Chowan Poetry Award

0807131768 LSU Press poet Catherine Carter has been awarded the 2007 Roanoke-Chowan award for her poetry collection, The Memory of Gills. The award is presented annually by the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association and has a long and distinguished history. The award will be presented at a ceremony in Asheville, NC, on November 10.
